The Fifth Character
I've always maintained that the house has a personality. It's the fifth character if you will. It looks strange because Mort's uncle was a scientist. Of the mad variety. He built things in his workshop that scared people. Self buttering toast was way before it's time though so he became a recluse. Out of the proceeds from his inventions he gained a sizeable estate. He then built his dream house and started tinkering away his golden years and teaching his nephew his vast knowledge of building up and breaking down. Again it fits. Who else but a mad scientist would have a fish tank built into the wall? I always wonder does anybody notice that fish tank?
The house was weird like that. It has a bunch of things that I don't know about, and I don't even think that Gar knows about it. But that's the fun part thinking these things up. I thought that I could get away with just showing bits and rooms of the house up till now, but I thought for the fiftieth comic why not go all out? I got out the big paper I had, and started drawing (after a couple of sketchbook scribbles of course). It's got it's charm. If anybody's interested, it's Gar's room on the first floor on the far side, Mort's on the top floor with the big window (on the left with the picture frames in there), and Posey lives on the loft room over the carport. The whole house used to be stuccoed, but Mort's Uncle was a mad scientist, and mad scientists find ways of blowing things up. I hope you guys liked my rantings tonight. Looking back on things here, I just rambled my way through three long descriptions of things. I hope I didn't put anybody to sleep.
