Same Apt Listen with Me..

I don't own the lyrics, I never said I did, you can't prove anything!

This started out as an MJ memorial piece, but since some people seem to be sick of the subject I thought, why not make something for music in general? So here I am, with a giant picture that took a crapload of layers. Kinda reminds me of this I did way back when. I've been trying to do a Gar and Mac pic to go with the Posey and Mort pic that I did last year. I think this is as good as any. I definitely like the way it came out.

Leetle White Rabbit..

Posey is pale. What can I say? That whole blush thing started long ago because I was trying to add color to her. Anyway, sorry for the delay in uploading this one, but it's been a shitty week. I don't mind saying that, because it's not just what's in the news, but here at work too (new managers trying to impress people always work against the peons doing the actual work). So all in all it's been a shitty week all around. Who knows, maybe with a new month coming in we'll be able to turn this around (justkeepswimming..). But enough about that. What good news is there? Well here you go, I finally got started making a new site. A couple of weeks ago, I started up a wordpress blog and am working to convert the site, from my own bubblegum and string code into something that is not only easy to update, but easy to change if the thought strikes me. I'll have you know, I had things to change about the current version of the site as soon as I put it up. I'm actually typing this up on Wordpress as we speak. So that's one of my goals. I'll have the feed ready asap, but for now the posts are going up simultaneously on blogger and wordpress before the blogger version of the blog (both of them) go down for good (and don't worry, all of that ranty goodness isn't going anywhere, because I've already gotten the archives from both blogs going back to 2005 already on wordpress).

Also, you know what else is a good thing? This comic, by coincidence, goes up on the third anniversary of Same Apartment! I like that because I wasn't able to celebrate the second anniversary because of the blackout last year when my computer died. And let's not forget the fact that I've been a part of this wonderful deviantart community for three years AND this is officially my 300th deviation. So I guess good things do come in threes, even THREES (unless you count the wordpress thing.. then that's four..)

Oh, and Faded-Myth, this Gar shirt is for you!

No Trouble Dougie..

What can I say about Dougie? Does anybody get this one? I barely do and I wrote the thing. We bought Terminator 2 Judgement Day a couple of weeks ago and they have the extended special edition in there where there's more scenes in the asylum. One of the creepier moments involve something in the theatrical version though. It has Dougie the creepy orderly licking Sarah's face while she's under her medications.

Nah, nothing will come of it. It's just me drawing some funny pictures. Honestly, how many onomatopoeia are there involving tongues? I just had to go with "LICK"

Oh, and look another arbitrary milestone!

Edit: Apparently it's in the theatrical version too.

Denver Braineater..

It's a couple hours late, but I don't care. It's not days (or weeks) late, and it doesn't look like crap. Someone the other week mentioned that Denver was introduced like he'd been there the whole time. And no, I'm not picking on you, I love that kind of critique. It's because it makes me think of things like this. That last panel was a lot of fun. It's been too long since we've gone to Gorey's. And look! A Gar shirt. Haven't seen one of those in a long time.

Bub..

You know what, I almost forgot about it being Wednesday. The comic on the site's been up for three hours.

Really what can I say about such a simple comic? It was a funny idea that popped into my head recently. What I liked is that I got a chance to fiddle with the background a couple of times. I originally was making the lines for the walls and what not with vectors and it was coming out too sterile and that made any fault in perspective really glaring and I wanted nothing to do with it. So I lost the lines and started painting free handed. Sure it's not as detailed as all get out, but it looks nice. Takes me back to the early strips somewhat. I also had a bitch of a time getting the pacing right with those word bubbles. I spent all of Monday morning putting that together, but hey that can be entertaining too! Look at them dance!

A Newcomer Approaches..

Introducing a new format in this one. I originally made the horizontal comics to save time on the thing and it worked for those little comics like say this one, but unfortunately for a comic of moderate size like say this one or this, required more space and got crammed (I even had to make that last one a little bigger to accommodate all the words in there). So I thought why not instead of trying to cram everything in a small space like that, why not just do what Penny Arcade and PVP do and just extend the comic down a little. So I took my 11x6 comic and extended it down into an 11x12 comic. And in doing so, shot myself in the foot. Because, like I said, I made the original horizontal comics smaller to save time. Maybe I just don't know the term streamlining..

But enough about me.. This comic's about Mr. Ashley Denver Gorey. He's a professional gamer, and I don't know if there are too many of these guys running around, but let's say in the Same Apartment world there are. It's pretty self exclamatory, he tests games and on the side plays in tournaments. He and Mac work well together don't they? This comic was done because while we had some wonderful jokes to go with the guy, we had no way to introduce him. We thought about doing another comic like Mac's introduction, but that seemed like a retread. See Denver is what Mac was originally. When she was first thought up she was going to be this antagonistic gamer to contrast Gar's more zen-like perspective. So the only things we could think about for his intro was Mac's story.. But hey I thought, why not just put him in there? And then we thought about the intro to the comic and the three main characters (it burns to look up those hyperlinks, you'd better appreciate them). So here's Denver. I hope you like him. Or hate him. He's just that kind of guy.

Same Apartment Treks On..

That was a wonderful break. Well break implies that I took one, but you get the idea.

I saw Star Trek last Thursday. It was a blast. Sure there are some naysayers out there, but I'm easily pleased (let's not forget my opinions on Speed Racer). A successful reboot if I ever saw one. You should go see it. Anyway, this continues the tradition of the movie comics, started way back with Spiderman 3. Last week (the one that got cut) was ironically the Wolverine comic (and no it wasn't because the movie wasn't up to snuff, just the comic), and no, Gar wasn't dressed as Wolverine in that one either. About midway through the inking process I just started to think to myself "This isn't working." Maybe something will come out of it, but if it doesn't then I'm not too broken up about it.

Oh, and just about everything from this comic is from something. I'm not going to say what. You should already know. And if you don't.. I'm taking away your nerd license. Just in case you need a hint?

Dance Like No One's Watching..

Posey gets down.

I'm putting this one up bigger than the normal ones. I can do that it's an online comic after all. The reason for this is that I couldn't cram all those lovely words (lyrics used without permission) into those tiny panels. It was illegible. But now it's there. I know it's busy but I hope you like.

It's been awhile since I played with the colors. And look, it's Mort! It's been awhile hasn't it Mort? Maybe next time he'll actually say something.

Featured songs here in order of appearance are Footloose (Kenny Loggins), Chase this Light (Jimmy Eat World), Ordinary Day (Great Big Sea), Who Are You (Who), and the last two are Bowling for Soup (I'm Gay and Shut Up and Smile) with a little It's a Small World (the Rockapella version if anyone can find that one online).
Cut from this comic were Supersonic by Bad Religion, Feelin' Alright by Joe Cocker and Under Pressure by Queen/David Bowie because I couldn't fit it/forgot about it.

This comic was inspired by my drive to work (what you don't sing in the car?)

Blackouts..

Can you believe this has been on the site for four hours now? I just got done inking next week's comic when I realized that it was Wednesday morning.. Usually I'm just finishing up this week's comic by now.

Posey's such a nerd in that first panel. But she finds her inspiration where she can. And Kutner's recent demise would be something that would inspire her to take that word processor by the reins and start to write. But unfortunately for her inspiration is also fleeting. I've been here a couple of times that's for sure. Of course my experiences usually involve more gnashing of the teeth and hurling of nearby objects. But that's just me.

Oh, and I hope you watched the last couple of episodes of House to get that reference.. Who will take Sulu to White Castle now?

Doodles Doodles Doodles!!

These pictures are almost a year old. It was originally supposed to come up as #101 and Mort's doodle comic as #102, but as I was working on this one, my old computer died. What my brother and I were planning is that the four doodle comics of the main characters would come up in the second book made for the second year. That's how it goes though, the best laid plans and all that shit. But for our birthday, we got an internal harddrive enclosure, so now I have access to all those pictures that were lost to the old computer (I had up to the unfinished comic #097 on the external harddrive backed up before it died so there were like two months I didn't have access to). I don't know if I'll do Mort's next, but for now I'm very glad to have this one done.

Simply Complicated..

This is my half of the art trade with Simple Comics. We've known each other since high school, so this was a long time coming. I've been wanting to do something in the Simple Complications world for a long time. See our comics bridge each other every so often. Timber Valley, the city that Same Apartment takes place in is situated around a lake. The same lake the titular Circle City takes place in. So they're in the same world, the only difference is that the world is represented differently. We've even had some cross overs every so often here and here.. But enough about that. If you want to find some more Gar and others, go read Simple Comics' magnum opus that is Simple Complications. I'll wait.

Oh, and look Marvel's movie. About time he had one. Everybody and Aunt May has had a comic book movie now

Seeing Eye Caveman..

This image just popped up in my brain. I'm not sure where it came from, but this is exactly what it looked like in my head. I don't do enough of these kinds of things anymore it feels like. Since it takes so much effort and time to do a comic, it almost doesn't seem worth it to do these kind of random jokes nowadays. But sometimes that's what I need. Sure I could probably do a heavy hard hitting story on Posey trying to lift Mort's cynicism, but in the end sometimes you just have to just play with pretty colors and images.

Plus how can you not like Captain Caveman?

Doodlebob!!

Hey look, something that's NOT two weeks apart.

I've been scanning again. This time, instead of going around getting all of one character, like I did on Posey and Mac, I just told John to pitch in anything that looked good and I would scan it and put it in there. Took a bit longer than I thought it would, but only since I couldn't go against my urge to color every one of them. But you get to see some of the ones that I've been trying to work on the side here. One of those is the CSI joke at the bottom left there, and the 40000 kiriban (the one that got deleted when photoshop crashed as mentioned here)

Watchmen..

What can I say it was a great movie. But there's one thing that my group of friends kept pointing out. Poor Posey, she's gonna miss like half of the movie.

I blame Jason for making this late. Still the tournament was great.

Oh, and even though this is a penis joke, I'm not putting mature content on it. You guys can take it right?

Mario, I hope you don't mind..

Awkward Situational Comedy..

Wow two weeks.. It's not even that big a comic..

But wow the two weeks I've had. First I sleep mostly through my days off, which as of late, are the only days I get to work on the comic. My sleep schedule has been way off lately (typing this at 3:22pm after only waking up yesterday at 8:45pm gee I wonder why..). Plus this week's days off I couldn't get in the mood to do anything on this thing no matter what I tried. Last Friday I figured out why. I had a nice cold brewing somewhere deep inside (probably the spleen, that crafty devil). So the last couple of days, I've been not only coughing and sneezing all sorts of bodily fluids, but also unable to draw anything worth two cents. All the while the last panel of this comic lay untouched.

But anyway, enough about me.. what about this comic? This was actually the simpler one I had planned for this week. The other one had more panels, but I have a feeling that I may have been able to whip it up with less effort (hindsight's a bitch). Posey isn't usually a gossip, but it's one of those things that you've got to just tell someone about. And really how would she know what it looks like anyway? All in all, even though I got tired of looking at this comic days ago (really I was probably just cranky because of the upcoming cold), I had a ball working on it and I'm actually happy with the results. Not only that, but you get to see inside Gar's room. Haven't done that since #010..

The site version seems to be down at the moment, but should be up soon.

Oh, and there's something interesting that's going to happen involving Same Apartment soon, but as this description is way too long as is, I'll wait till everything comes together on it.

Elflord..

To my Deviantart Readers: Sorry about being so late folks, I got called into work a couple of hours early and I forgot to upload it early. Those of you who checked out the site though, got to see this already since as long as I have the comic uploaded to Tomekeeper, it goes up automatically (hint hint).

On to the comic description!
Anyway, one thing I've noticed about this new horizontal style is that it allows these simple jokes to be done way more freely. I like that, since I had so many problems with comics such as the telemarketer comic. Jokes such as these shouldn't be so time consuming (I think I remember it was two weeks late). This one only took me a couple of days to do, and I actually like the results. After all, nothing like a little simple humor. Especially if it doesn't take two weeks to do..

Skulltime Bear is back..

I've been watching too much Bones I think..

This is an old concept. I've got an old drawing of a fried head killed by a Care Bear Stare that's like three years old. The two people in the final panel are the kids from the movie. I thought "Why wouldn't they become police officers?" The dead guy's just a guy. Maybe Jeff Daniels? Don't know..

Had to make that stare from scratch. Scratch I say!!

White Rabbits and Stupid Jokes..

I'm having a ball with this new coloring style. This comic was an interesting one. I wrote it, drew it and inked it on the fifth. That's the quickest work we've ever had on any comic in Same Apartment's history. It took me a bit of time to get around to coloring it, but here we are on the eighth with a finished comic. I think I may just get on top of that New Year's resolution of making comics on deadline.

Anyway, this is just something that popped into my head. I knew I couldn't do it as a straight joke, so I chose instead to go with something that was so unfunny that it was funny, hence the hilarity in the last panel. I also found it a fun comic to work on some nice fun expressions. We all love a good stupid joke here and there don't we?

Happy New Year 2009..

Happy New Year folks, just a couple of days left.

Funny story about this one: Originally they were counting the stars. Then I put that last panel in there with Gar catching the snowflake, but there was a problem. You can't see the stars if it's snowing. So I had the bright idea that they could just be counting snowflakes. But my brother (the writer) said no. How do you like that? Even though I wrote this one.

So anyway, some nice dialogue between Gar and Mac. I liked it through the whole process. That's something I don't often get. Bring on the 2009!!

What's that on the Horizon?

Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

This one was one of those jokes that I liked and wanted to see finished, but for some reason I couldn't get into the mood to color. I'm glad I didn't slap it together at the last minute to get it on time, because (just like last year's Christmas comic) I loved the way the coloring came out.

More Mort Christmas cynicalness. And the Muse as well! Haven't seen her in awhile, have we? Posey will crack him one day. I draw on my notes too.

A note on the layout of this comic, I thought maybe if I make the comic a horizontal style one this time it would help it go through the pipeline quicker. What do you guys think? I've got more tests coming..

It does tingle..

I would love to wait til the Star Trek movie comes out for this one, but I figured someone will think about this joke by then (in fact I'm sure it's been done by now) So here it goes up.. early for a change. If anybody's seriously confused, it's because Zachary Quinto is playing Spock in the upcoming Star Trek film. He's playing Sylar on Heroes.. so yeah.

I think that new coloring style's doing wonders. At least for a simple one like this. I used that new brush for the last comic.. I wonder if anyone noticed any change? I'm sure my astute readers noticed. How bout it guys?

A note to the blog readers: I need to get my old harddrive off of the old computer before I start putting up thumbnails for the comic. It'll happen here soon don't fret folks.

Same Apartment dot com request..

Ok, I updated the site edition of the comic after all these months after my computer died. I'll be back to putting up the normal blog updates and thumbnails in the comic archives soon here, but I'm concentrating more on this week's comic for now. But it's nice that now not only can you see both parts of the 100th comic up there (I was able to update on DA but not on the site, since I wasn't able to get to tomekeeper on another computer), you can also see all the current comics that are up. We're now up to SA#104, so that's good.

Funny thing is that according to Thurinus, I could've updated as soon as I got my new computer.. Not sure on the details, but that's my bad.

Anyway here's a request. Since the site's been dead, Same Apartment's stats on thewebcomicslist.com have completely flatlined. Help support Gar and crew there by checking out the comic on the site. All you have to do is click the link and check out the most current page at http://sameapartment.com/ Just click the link, if you like browse through the archives and if you haven't read the comics here on Deviantart, then you can read through them on the handy dandy browser. But even if you don't want to read or have already done so, then just click the link and move on to other interweb adventures.
Let's see if we can bring Same Apartment back to three digits again.

Marker Fight..

I have an excellent excuse for why the comic is late. But since I haven't slept I forgot what it was.

So moving on. This was a suggestion by :iconsimplecomics: to do a real media comic to represent the months I went without the computer. I thought it was a good idea and here we are. I wasn\'t sure whether or not to tweak the background with photoshop, or to just leave it untouched like this, but I figured to leave it completely unaltered. with the exceptions of some size issues, what you see is what you get. This also marks the first time that there is an actual Same Apartment comic colored that exists outside the computer.

Echo.. Echo.. Echo..

Is there anybody out there? I hope so, even though there's been a media blackout here on Tomcat Ltd. Let me explain. My normal computer that I use to make the comic and update the site suffered a power surge that completely fried the motherboard. I've been updating through simple pictures on my deviantart page, here.. I have replaced my computer and have resumed on Same Apartment. Unfortunately I don't yet have the means to update the site. On the good side, I will be updating through Deviant Art and will be updating every Saturday as usual. In fact I think I have something right now..

A Completely Arbitrary Milestone..

Internet's down, I'll put it up proper once I have the means at home.. Until then, you can find the comic on the deviantart page here

It's been a long time. Too long. Sorry folks I've had a rough week the fnal straw of which being my internet is again not working (I'm typing this at my parents' house, which explains why it's not up on the website). But I found out something regarding the comic. I work best in the hours that I'm usually at work. That explains why I've been so sporatic on the comic lately. yesterday, after fiddling around with the third and fourth panels all day, I finished the fourth and fifth panels in record time for me lately and not only that but did all the lettering before ten in the morning. So maybe I should set aside that time on my days off from 11PM to 8AM.

But on to the festivities! Pop the confetti and throw the champagne, Same Apartment finally reached one HUNDRED comics. It took awhile longer than I thought, but we finally reached three digits. Yes folks this is why Proto Gar is so angry. It also took a bit of time, but I finally brought Same Apartment under the huge umbrella of webcomics that have their creators charicatured in the comic. In the second panel, that's me (in the orange), John (my brother the writer, in blue), and as a third bonus reference to one of the comic series that helped pave the way for a bigger webcomic BCN, the third creator of S'mores Force.

Again, sorry for the lateness folks, I can't promise no late comics in the future, but I hope that more often than not we'll actually have an on time quality product. Speaking of the future, I've also got something in the works, something hopefully big. Here's to more of Gar, Posey Mort and Mac, and of course the fifth character, the Same Apartment.

The end of double digits..

It is finally done. I haven't slept in about 24 hours, but it's done.

Some explaining must be done. Originally about three years ago (this October actually), I made up Same Apartment with my brother and it was a random little comic starring a cat named Gar and a rabbit named Posey. We thought up a couple of comics and characterizations and we came to the conclusion that Gar would be the random zany guy and Posey would be the serious straight angry character. Sound familiar to anyone?

Anyway, what we started to realize was that it was pretty much exactly like many other video game comics out there. Sure there's nothing inherently wrong with that but we wanted to make it different. And so on the last of the comics with double digits, we harken back to a simpler time when what we now call PROTO Gar and Posey were just a simple duo making fun of video games.

This and the next comic are a sort of bridge into the 100s and so it'll continue next week. Both comics though have a reference to my other comic projects that lead up to Same Apartment, ones that though short lived, helped me learn the skills needed to put a polished comic together. See if you can find the references here.

That's the end of double digits peoples.

Make Mine Marvel..

Got the comic up on a Saturday!

For those of you who haven't seen it, this is how the Hulk movie ends. So, SPOILER ALERT!!

Nah, I wouldn't do that to you. This is the sequel to Spidersnot. I planned to do more of these by now, but it's seldom that a good gag reared it's ugly head. I only wish I had one for Iron Man, but since I didn't know much about Iron Man, well you get the idea..

Anyway, I wholeheartedly liked the thing. Hulk is a huge green hulking beast. True to form Ed Norton was fantastic. I'd recommend it. Five big green swollen fingers up.

Jeepers Boobies..

Hey what do you know! I finally remembered to put the blog post up with the comic. Too bad it's like five days late you're saying I'll bet. But I digress

Here you are folks. I was worried about this one for a long time. But I think that in those final panels it came through. It needed that splash panel on number four. It's definitely one of my more colorful comics. And yes that's what I thought about Speed Racer. I don't care what you say, I liked it.

Yes Posey has a Jeep. What did you think she was going to have (no really I want to know.. maybe you have an easier car to draw in mind)? I've mentioned that she has a car before (I think it was in one of the December comics). She has officially a 1992 Jeep Wrangler. The reason for that involves that she moved out of her parents' house with her meager belongings. She needed something that she could potentially live in for a while.

I'm not sure where the guy came from. Maybe he's the Telemarketer Guy going through a mid life crisis. And apparently picking up an indistinct accent.

I hope you enjoy. And as to why it was so late.. I have but this to say.. Cottleston Cottleston Cottleston Pie.

Last two posts again..

Number Ninety Five:

It's too bad of the work related problems keeping this comic late. It's one that I probably would've gotten done early if I got my normal days off. But such is life.

Someone said this to me at work last month. He said that his grandfather pulled him aside one day and said this to him..

I'll admit that it sounds a bit different than I usually go with on Same Apartment, but come on, you gotta admit, it's a funny story. I wasn't sure exactly how to go with it, but then it came to me. Why not have Gar's grandfather tell it to him? Gar's grandfather would be from a different generation he can say stuff that say, Posey wouldn't.

Actually thinking about that, Posey wouldn't want to meet this guy..

Hehe, fart jokes.. It was only a matter of time..

Number Ninety Six:

Yep another doodle comic. But hey it's better this time since I filled the page this time. And it's early..(on Deviantart at least..) And look! It's Posey.

Some notes about this one:

Posey with the bag there. That's Posey before she met Gar and Mort and started living in the house. She lived in her car for a couple of weeks around the city. I really should do a comic about that one day..

I hope someone gets the Spiderman reference there..

Posey seems to be a Burnout addict. I got Burnout 3 and it's very addictive. I'm not sure if she drives that way in real life, but she may get road rage from time to time.

The others are just random doodles that I made of her, except the little badly drawn one with no color. That is one of the earliest drawings of Posey. Yay!

I've gotta end these six in the morning updates..

Convenience and almost arrested..

Comic's up a bit late since the server was down, but it has been up on Deviant Art for a while..

So ya, Mort getting his punchline on.

Whoo, this was such a simple joke. I don't think I'll try to chop together a comic next time. As you can see there's a lot of copying and pasting done here, from the background to Mort in the third panel, to the guy in all the panels. It was a quick comic, but it left a feeling of emptiness inside. I can't get that part of my soul back.

Eh, I'd probably just waste it anyway.

Not only that, but I almost got arrested last night!!

See here's the story..
Me and a bunch of friends were driving in my car (a mint green Dodge Neon if you need the visual)..

So like I says there were the five of us crammed in (four fat guys and one small girl in a car called Tic Tac, but I digress) and we see this guy in his nice shiny little sports car next to us looking a little smug. So we think (I believe it was yours truly that suggested it first) let's screw with him just a bit. So what do we do?

We blast Weird Al's White and Nerdy out of our stereo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xEzGIuY7kw

We turned it up really loud and waved our hands out the windows like a bunch of fools. We started bouncing up and down to the beat, and the guy in the sports car is looking at us like we just landed the mother ship beside him. And then the light turned green and we drove away laughing our fat asses off.

Then the other shoe dropped. As we turn off the highway to get home we see the blue flashing lights of someone we didn't want to see. On the side of the road we watch them walk up slowly and then their reinforcements arrive. Imagine us, five nerds and here are three police cruisers pulling up behind us. They start to tell us to get out our identification and what not and this one guy (who we find later is in the narcotics devision) tells us to put our hands out the windows where he can see them. That's when we know this isn't just a minor speeding stop. Apparently they'd seen our little escapade at the red light (or so we figure, they never did give us the exact reason they pulled us over, but what else could it be?). We're summoned out of the car and all of us keep our hands on the vehicle (so says Mr. Narcotics).

What makes this story even more gripping is that the same wired police officer is treating this like a real bust rather than just a bunch of idiots who got a bit rowdy all the while one of his fellow officers is reassuring us that everything's fine. Mr. Narcotics even went so far as to threaten to tase my friend for making sudden movements while he reached for his ID. And when he told us all one by one to stop smirking (that's my natural facial position actually). He should probably switch to decaf maybe..

But all in all it turned out fine, no one was incarcerated, but now we have a nice story to freak out our parents about.

Poor poor neglected blog..

The comic has been going on without the blog it seems.. So for anyone who still listens to the blog feed only, here are the updates you've been missing.

#89
I thought about putting dialog in this one, but it works quietly. All you need to know is that she doesn't really like being the sandwich advertising for Bookington's. I haven't put her in her uniform in awhile. It was nice, until I found that I put the window behind her the same color as her shirt normally is. So um.. now Bookington's has a purple shirt too..

yeah that's it.

#90
This is a birthday present to Cheese Goddess, who's birthday was over a month ago. But to be fair, I did draw it that long ago. Benson and Butler don't like telemarketers so they like to bait them a bit. Then they can cackle wildly at the poor man's soul getting crushed. If you look closely you can see the picture I mentioned in a recent journals

Oh, yes humongous props to Cheese and Faded Myth for helping with the dialogue, I needed a good rant.

As for today, #91
I'd like to get more done on this, but sometimes you just gotta say that it's finished.. for now. Maybe if I get done with the next comic early (as in on time this week..) I'll upload some finished versions of these as full sized pictures. For anyone wondering, this is a doodle comic. I plan to do a couple of these as time goes by. I was procrastinating on the comic as usual and I started a sheet of just Mac doodles. I filled the sheet, so I figured, why not make a comic out of it?

That scribbley one is one of the first drawings of Mac I did without her coat and hat on, and it was done long after I should've drawn it back in 06 before I revealed her to be a girl.

Yes Mac does have glasses, she just uses contacts mostly. And no she probably won't grow her hair out that long anytime soon.

btw, has anyone seen Mac without long sleeves on?

Is it strange that I decided to make this a comic to speed things up, and now it's a late comic as well? Irony..

Front.. Back.. Whatever...

And we're back!! *jazz hands!!

It's been a long and painful struggle. It's been hard. It's been painful, and it's been a struggle. I'm pleased to report that while everything didn't go smoothly with the move, it did at least go. Every bit of my crap is now at the new place. We got internetz up and running and now I can upload from the comfort of my own computer. That doesn't mean to say that Same Apartment hasn't been uploading. I just haven't had the chance to do it on my computer. The Black and White arc has gone down and now that I did it I'm glad. If it weren't for something that simple, I wouldn't have been able to keep updating for as long as I was. I'd hate for it to go on hiatus just because of internet delays. If you haven't been keeping up, here's a nice link for you to start off where we left off.

Big One..

It's been busy here this week for some reason (BRAWL!!), so I've been neglecting the blog. But here's the Same Apartment Black and White numbers three through five!

Number three. These are saving me a lot of time I've gotta say. Posey makes her black and white debut. This one was one of the more simpler ones and originally I thought the joke was a bit cliche. Then I thought why not play with some fonts? I turned out great I think. How do you like it folks?

Yesterday was a blast. There was a tournament down at my local GameStop and the atmosphere was electric. The manager said that it blew the Halo 3 party to bits. I played of course, and despite my best efforts I couldn't get past the first round. I had a good fight though (I would've wiped the floor with him if they'd done their original idea of a Melee tournament). So far I've got most of the characters, using the VS Mode along with my brother. I'm glad it's lived up to the hype, I was a bit worried for a while there. Especially since I had this comic already drawn weeks ago..

It looks like Gar and Mac had the same fun I did.

This one was a fun one. Originally I just had him running from a bee. But what a fun twist that he's running from bee MARIO! hehe *cough. You know, this one is so simple that I'll just leave it at that.

Number two..

Mort goes back to his roots as a set up man. I'm glad I got over this use of Mort as the person just there to deliver the punchline, such as this and this but it's not bad to go back to it every so often. More fourth wall jokes.

Two updates this week..

I'll link to both comics directly this time, since I've neglected to do it in the past.

First the Dreamers epilogue which is uncolored for lack of time (but not for lack of trying). The explanation of it is here on the Deviantart entry of it.

As for tonight, we have something new here:

I'm putting this up on Thursday because for once I got something done early and I figured you guys have been great and patient about the last Dreamers comics. It's only just a tad ironic that he's ranting about lateness in a comic going up two days early. But I digress.

Here it is the start of the event that I mentioned in the last comic, and teased about earlier. I had this planned out before I made that teaser and also way before I started lagging behind. The latter of it may just be fixed in this event since it may give me a chance to catch up with some simpler comics.

Tune in on March 4th for more details..

One more thing before I go: This isn't a bash on black and white comics. I know that people like Bill Watterson and Scott Kurtz and Mario Gonzalez do wonderful work that I envy, this is just Proto Gar mentioning the fact that all I really did was not color it.

The stuff that dreams are made of.. which is LATE!!

Yep, dreams are made of lateness. They look like strong hands don't they?

It's not such a hard looking comic is it? But the thing is I didn't actually get done inking this thing til last Thursday night. I didn't get much done at all on Friday and then I was stuck. But I mucked through it, and I'm glad you guys didn't mind coming along for the ride.

When my brother came up with this story, we wanted something interesting for all four of them. Posey's for instance looked deep into her psyche and insecurities. Gar's was a nice gag and saw a lot of his whimsical nature. Mort's I didn't really like at first, since it wasn't very complicated and didn't really showcase his character much. I grew to like his since the comics leading up to the arc really showed off his volatile nature and so his dream became a nice break from it. Mac's dream on the other hand agreed upon the moment it was thought up. It was such a strange idea I had to do it. Plus Mac butt, how can you not like that?

To all the kiddies out there who just hit puberty: You're welcome.

Dreamers 04 and 05...

Might as well update this now, since I forgot last week..

It's here folks, sorry for the HUGE delay. It's Posey's turn for dreaming.

If you've been keeping up in the last couple of days (it was put up on Tuesday) you'll know why it's late, so I don't have to elaborate, except one fact. This was late because it was hard. The reason I did it like this, is that I didn't want to settle on something that wasn't good. The characters in the dream had to be menacing. So settle and you get something that looks mildly annoyed..

Originally I was going to have Posey in high school being looked upon by her fellow classmates, which the first and some of the third panels show (hence the books and braces), but panels four and five were made with random characters (It's a GIANT Chicken I tells ya!!). I'd say that I meant for it to be that Posey still feels in some ways that she's still in high school with that social pressure still riding around on her back, but if I didn't just say that I got bored drawing angry teens I'd have my head up my ass. And that ain't good for anybody.

Then last Saturday:

Caught up! Mort's was definitely less ambitious than Posey's. And I think there's a reason for that. Posey for one thing has a much bigger imagination. Sure I did that whole Muse thing to show that Mort is an artist with science as his palette, but not only does she have a bigger imagination, she also has insecurities. Mort's comfortable with himself. He may hate himself, but he doesn't care what others think.

I decided to resurrect the chalkboard idea for this one, on one case since I had to get this one done quickly, plus someone suggested (Psyping I think) that I hide inside jokes in the comic for people that maybe would like to find some extra content.

Eighty comics down, twenty to go!

Explore Dream Discover..

The first of the dreams. Gar's a simple person. He dreams about what we all like to dream about: Being a giant pizza. I think we've all had those weird ones. I gotta say I had some bad nightmares about the pizza oven when for that year I was working at Dominos. You know the one, where you're having to get pizzas out of the oven and it keeps getting faster I Love Lucy style. Good times.

This one was created because my cat was sleeping on a pizza box, and my brother (the actual writer of this here joke) said "He'll dream of pizza.." Then he said why not do all of them having dreams. The other ones will get a bit more elaborate, trust me.

Gar's got issues with teddy bears apparently.

Perchance to Dream..

It was a long night. Foolish person that I am, I hardly got the inking done by Thursday this week. So my entire weekend was a mad dash to finished comicdom (this is becoming a trend). Oh, well. At least for now I'm done with that dang brick wall.

Anyway. It seems like a lot to do for such a little joke, but there it is the final setup page for the Dreamers storyline. Now we finally get to the good part. And what could be the good part of a storyline called Dreamers? I'll let you figure that out.

Hey look there are finally fish in that thing!

Dreamers..

There were so many delays with this one, that I don't want to go into it, since you'll probably be tired about hearing about delays by now..

So anyway, this one was done in 600dpi folks. Since Lennan showed me this technique and the 6th was her birthday, I figured, what the hay, and did this comic in that technique. My computer wasn't so happy with that. Seems it can't take as many layers as a comic takes at that size. Oh, sure a simple Mort picture why not? But a full blown comic? Eh, not so much. But anyway this is the first page of the Dreamers storyline. More pacing, but it's more to show you that not only is it still New Year's night, but they ate all the food they got (well actually a lot of it is strewn around the place). Don't worry, next week something will happen. While this kind of storytelling isn't really ideal for a webcomic that updates once a week, I think if people read these all together, they'd flow wonderfully. One of the drawbacks of the medium, so what can you do? (stop reading you say? Well that's just not kosher..) The fabled fish room gets a comeback. It's nice to see it again, since it's been almost ten months.

Oh, and if anybody's wondering, that's Posey speaking. It's been awhile since she had her log but I've been meaning to put it back in, and this seemed like the perfect fit.

Three Quarters aint half bad..

Yep another New Year's Eve comic.. Hope you aren't tired of those yet.

Probably the latest I've ever gotten a New Year's picture in..

This is a simple one isn't it? I originally wanted this to be a special one to go up on New Year's Day, but sadly things happen and I decided it still was worth it. You see, there's a story arc coming up and this serves as a nice bridge between the Mort/Posey stuff from the last couple of weeks and the arc coming. Plus it offers a bit of pacing, not only to pass some time with, but to show that it's still New Year's night. So I hope you enjoy this last bit of festivities celebrating the start of 2008, and see you next week with page one of Dreamers..

New Year 2008..

Wow, when I said that it was a good thing that last one was a simple one, this is what I was comparing it to. Imagine if you will it's 5:30 in the morning and you're just starting on the last panel. Either way here it is, the last Same Apartment of 2007. This is also the last Same Apartment that I liked both the artwork and the writing (which I actually did by myself for once) in 2007. It's a nice feeling to get it down to the wire. Let's see if that feeling will last til I get home from work tonight. Sleep is not an option at this point.

Anyway on the comic: This is it for the Mort/Posey contrasting world views semi arc. I say it's a semi arc since it was more of an over arcing theme as opposed to any real continuity, even though the last comic does continue on with this comic (except for apparently Posey's jacket which I noticed shortly after starting on that final panel. Did I mention it was at 5:30?). So yeah, lookie action for once! They walked inside without keeping their hands to the side for a change! Oh, and no Gar doesn't have a motorcycle, he has a scooter. I just didn't consider the fact that the first panel is in silhouette.

I had such a hard time fitting Batman in there. Might just make that a tradition.

Oh, and finally that snow brush in the first panel is by dollfie-chan.

More Gorey..

I'm lucky this one was a quick one. Otherwise the procrastinating I did on it would've proven fatal. If this was last week's comic I wouldn't be updating right now. It's not a huge comic, but it serves as a thematic bridge between last week, and a continuity bridge to New Years, which caps the thing off, and starts it's own storyline (hint hint). The whole time working on this one, I was worried that the comic was going to fall flat on it's face. And it would have, if not for the solid writing, for which goes special thanks to Cheese Goddess. Also hail the return of Henry Gorey. Only took about a YEAR!!

Civility Goes out the Window..

Just got done with it, and didn't want to wait. I didn't think I'd get done with this this time. This morning, I was just starting with the third panel. Except for the part with Gar and Posey in that panel, everything was done in the computer. It was a test let me tell you!

Anyway, this one isn't really meant to be all that funny. It's been awhile since I did a real character strip. It's supposed to pit Mort's cynicism against Posey's optimism. Also, finally it snows. I've always meant it to snow where they live, but this is my first chance to implement it. Hope it came out alright. So here's the third to last strip of the year. Two more til 2008!

Bill Watterson is a genius..

Originally this week I had a comic with Mort. I mentioned it a couple of times in comments I believe, but unfortunately the comic was a bit complicated background-wise, so I had to shelve it. Really when I drew the thing I drew bushes in the scenery and didn't think much of it when I set it up to appear in the start of December. I always wanted the comic's location to have snow in the winter time, so that was kind of counter to that. The good news is that now I have a half finished comic just needing some color when I eventually come back to it.

Anyway, enough explanations, on to the description for this comic. When I found that I needed to start over for this week (on Monday, really cutting it close), I needed something simple. I had this gag and I thought what fun to test a style. I thought to myself, "Self, why not see if I could do a comic mimicking Calvin and Hobbes. Won't that be fun?" I had a couple of books on hand and looked through them to find some of the weird snowmen and some trees and snow. "I can do this." I thought, "This'll be easy!" Boy how I was wrong. The hardest thing was that tree in the background. Apparently my early Joy of Painting influences still haven't weeded themselves out when painting trees. But what can you do with a deadline? I'll make the next winter stuff a bit more cartoony, I promise.

Oh, and that's Mac under there.

What you get if you add 70 and 548,627..

Happy half a million hits Tomcat Ltd! It's nice to see Leroy again.

This is the original joke that led to the little vignette on last week's comic. And thanx to the written stylings of Cheese Goddess, the words of Benson are really messed up. But it was fun making Mac's mortified expressions so that alone was worth conjuring those images. Hope you like some fun at Mac's expense. It's been a treat doing Benson and Butler this last month, but I think I'll take a break from them for a while. This one was the first comic with Benson but no Butler, but that's not something I'll make permanent.

This probably has more word bubbles than any other comic.

Sex Me Up..

Same Apartment just lost it's virginity. Gar can explain that..

Ok, folks. Just so I don't get too many WTF out there, this is an out of continuity strip. And even if it were in continuity, I could still explain:

1) Benson's a jerk
2) Mort is gay for Picard
3) Posey likes to dress up
4) I couldn't fit Gorey's joke in this one (nah, just kidding)
5) Mac butt

But then why would I need to explain such things? I don't know.. This comic is poking fun at that oldest past time. Just for poking's sake.

Fussbudget..

Just finished it. The sun is coming up, which means now I have to sleep.

I'm actually pretty proud of this particular comic. I learned a lot doing skin in this one, where there's a lot of human skin. I fashioned a nice way to add a bit of color to the character's cheeks, so they don't look so pale anymore (for a demonstration of that check out the first panel of the last comic). Plus I had a lot of fun making a sequel of sorts to the "Ha!" panel of the last one. Coloring aside, I'm especially proud of the fact that I got this one down, under the wire and before Saturday morning (or ON Saturday morning depending on where you are). I hope that determination sticks around for a couple more comics.

Next week folks, the long awaited 69th comic, where Same Apartment loses it's virginity.

I need to post some full sized images of this one, I the detail so much.

Curmudgeon..

Return of Benson and Butler.. They haven't been here in forever have they? But I had to put them in for this one, because I have something planned for the 69th comic (you know what I mean). Just got this one down on Thursday, so it's down to the wire on the next one.. Wish me luck, I may just get the second year done without missing a comic.

Believe..

Yep Super Mario Galaxy comes out in two weeks. Here's my contribution to the couple of video game comics that will probably pay tribute. This was the comic I mentioned a while ago when I put up the art meme. This took me a week and a half to finish. It is currently the final comic I had in my buffer comics, so now I'm currently making next week's. But I think it was worth it don't you? The Mushroom Kingdom burns and there's only one plumber out there who can save it. Well, Luigi's there too. I noticed btw that this isn't really that much of a parody of the famous Halo commercial (after all it's hard to signify moments frozen in time in a comic), but I think I at least got the ending right, don't you?

PS I got the Mushroom Kingdom flag from fellow Deviant Dewclaw. Sorry it isn't as prominent as I originally had hoped, but it's there and I promised to give credit where credit is due.

Duct Tape Solves Every Problem..

Last official update of Halloween comics. Next one up (the conclusion for the arc at the bottom) comes up on Halloween night. So I hope you liked these last few weeks. I wanted this one to be reminiscent of last year's Halloween special, and I might just do a party every year. Maybe next year I can go and have some more people like I did last time, but for now, the gag is enough. Mort wanted to stay home this year.

Quick geek points to whoever can guess their costumes (minus Mort of course, he's a duct tape monster of Gar's design).

The last panel is the final blow to Gar. Nice knowing you..

Sonic Slasher..

Third page of the Halloween arc. This has got to be the bloodiest comic I've ever done. This was the last one thought up I think, probably shows in the quality of the comic. Sonic was fun though. He looks a bit mad in that first panel. Maybe he knows something we don't. Blood is surprisingly fun to color. of the Halloween arc. This has got to be the bloodiest comic I've ever done. Happy Little Pumpkin and Part Two..

Part two of our little Halloween jaunt. And for you guys some jaunty pumpkins. Just a simple joke on this one. I wanted to keep the funny side of the Halloween comics simple so to add to the severity of the ones underneath. That's good news and bad news for you. You won't get something like the Trick or Treating comic last year, but on the upside you get to see an arc displaying webcomic atrocities. And for Halloween, what more could you ask for?

Halloween Pac Man..

It's that time of year again dear readers. As you may recall, last year I came out with a bunch of morbid humor. That's going to go on this year too, with an added bonus. This could stand some explanation. Each week this month will show a new part of a five part arc showing the demise of Same Apartment. I hope you like.

Working on just over half a comic was interesting. I had to make sure that all four pages fit into the right space. When I get done with all four parts come in for a special Halloween Same Apartment.

Mudfight!!!

This one was planned for a long time. Back in winter I wanted to do something like this. It was supposed come out around the time that spring came out (and Mac was revealed). And then I had the idea to put the house into the comic on the fiftieth and I figured I should see where Posey's bathroom would fit into the floorplan. The punchline back then was Posey saying "Spring has sprung" but obviously I chose to go down expanding Mac's role (also explains why Mac isn't in this one technically). So instead of letting the idea fester in my idea book, I figured it was time to air the joke out. Gar and Mort can be spontaneous when they want to be.

If Mac IS Your Real Name..

She's just full of surprises isn't she? I mean, what kind of parent would name their little daughter Mac? This is the first time that Mac appears in her work environment. Indeed this is the first time I even did Bookingtons since I first showed the location back in April. Man time flies.. It seems Tabbysworth is lax on uniforms in the fact that Mac is able to roll up her sleeves and wear something underneath (that's a long sleeved shirt under her work shirt btw). Those cabinets were so annoying to color every time let me tell you! Posey's having a good butt day.

A Royal Guest..

That's the end folks..

A little guest star in this one.. Someone requested it, I forget who. Probably the same person who caused the Sonic SatAM fanfic line on SA#2. Even Mort is wrong every so often, as he figured Gazoo was Gar's muse. Then again Mort is a ill patient scientist who makes potentially dangerous experiments just because he's bored. Maybe Gazoo was right up his alley. Everybody's is different. I'm not sure what mine actually looks like, but I'm sure of one thing: She's fickle. The backgrounds on this one are a bit funky, but I think that's just the backlash from digitally painting them on the last three comics.

Ben Franklin Farts Out Loud..

Almost done with Musing. One more page.. As grueling as it was at the time, I really had fun with the backgrounds on it. This was the page that was thought up to cap this storyline. The whole point was that she gets him to put down his creative drive for a bit and just get some fresh air. We all have those blocks. Sometimes it's just getting away for a bit that'll rejuvenate us. Oh and the screens here were pretty much like the chalkboard. For some reason, I just figured I'll fill them in later. That was a mistake. Took a long time. But I had fun with them, and now I know that Mort's got cameras all over the town (Which you can see btw if you look really hard).

Labels:

Skant..

Ya, I really should've done more with Gazoo, but the original story involved Mort meeting some embodiment of science. And I don't know about you, but The Great Gazoo just isn't Mort's idea of that. Well, maybe she isn't your idea of and embodiment of science, but this is Mort's mental breakdown not yours. These backgrounds were more fun than the chalkboard. I didn't have to think up too many things. Hope you like.

By the way dear readers, I'm sure you guys know about the new Same Apartment web page from this journal entry. What I forgot to mention is that the new web page updates automatically every Saturday, regardless of if I put up a page here. You can see the new page every Friday night some time around midnight (those first precious minutes of Saturday).

Great!!

Here we have page two of Musing. This comic was done with complete digital backgounds. The only thing I drew was Mort and Gazoo. You guys like? I really had no idea what Mort's lab would look like. So what happened is that I kept putting off designing it, and it came down to the twelfth hour. So I started putting blobs in there. I figured it'd look something like the crowds in the Clash story (which style I'd been wanting to do again really). What came out for some reason was very sharp and detailed. And oh so shiney! And then there was the chalkboard. That was a bitch. As you can see the joke started to wear thin. Hope you enjoy.

Musing..

This is what that poll was about.
I've noticed that I don't use Mort too often. And I planned that all three of the original group would have a plot line. Even before Mac came along as a main character, I figured that Posey would have a story, Gar would, and Mort would. All three could prove a testing ground for different techniques. In the Clash Storyline I experimented with crowd scenes. In Bookingtons, I tried my hand at some better writing, and in Mort's I'm going to introduce a new character. Along with that, I got sucked into doing the backgrounds completely digitally, which was a challenge for me. I've been trying it for years, but this is the first chance to do it for a complete story. I hope you guys like it. And now without further ado, the first page of Mort's story: Musing.

Pixelicious..

This was a simple idea that came to me. I figured I'd just have Gar running up a hill. Then I thought of the pixelly things that people had been doing all over Deviantart, and thought to add the Mario Bros angle to it. For anybody's information, this isn't an example of any particular game, just a mash up of different things from a few of them. High Scores are fun (of course, they'd be more fun if I was any good at these kinds of games.

One more thing, if anybody's interested.. There's a new Same Apartment page up on my site, Tomcat Ltd. It's roughly the same as before, but the code's been updated courtesy of Thurinus and his mad coding skillz. Now there's a handy dropdown menu with all the comics in it. Plus it should be much faster for those with slower net connections. So head down there and check it out. Same Apartment's new page..

Milestones..

That's twenty bucks that Jason owes me. When I first decided to put up a webcomic I didn't think it'd get very far. I figured that like most of the stories I did it would end up a disjointed thing only showed for a bit and then not seen again for a long time. Then I would move on and do something else for a bit and lose interest in that too. But this last year was different. I focused on this so much that I'd actually let other ideas go that I'd have otherwise pursued. A deadline really screws you up that way. But no worries. I got more done because of a deadline. It wasn't just for that twenty dollars of course, but for that elusive prize. Bragging rights. Going for one full year without missing one update. And with that I bid you farewell for a couple of weeks. I'm off to make more comics to make a buffer between the comic I'm drawing and Saturday update.

Rabid..

Just a silly little comic today. It was down to the wire for awhile there. I was still inking the comic on Thursday morning. That's not a good place to be. But I came through another all nighter so you the dear readers can have some measly entertainment on your Saturday morning. Now I know what the writers of Loonatics feel like. If you don't know the subject of this comic, then maybe you own a certain big black speed bump. Then again, they had it on the other consoles. I just can't imagine how that went. But this comic dedicates the announcement of Raving Rabbids 2. Some advice for the people down at Ubisoft: This time include an ENDING!!

Fifty Baby..

It's been a wild ride. Fifty comics. Can you imagine that? FIFTY. That's not like hitting double digits. The most I got out of a comic before this was 10 pages on my Super Mario Brothers comic. On original work, before that it was eight pages on S'mores Force. And I'd still like to do more with them. But that's for another day. This post is about Same Apartment. It's their day this Saturday of Saturdays. Gar, Posey, Mort, and later Mac have been through a bunch of things. When I started this endeavor I was trying to find a bit of stability. While I had some fun with things like Fast Food (the Ronald McDonald thing) and reimaginings of Mickey Mouse, Popeye and the Brothers, I wasn't really thrilled with going on long periods of time with any of them. The Mario Brothers comics would take a month to do with other things in between. And Fast Food was such a random idea that while fun, I couldn't see them really doing much. Then I started reading comics. Web comics. I read through the archives of Applegeeks and VGCats. I thought I could do that. It wouldn't be hard. Maybe a bit of stability. And (as I thought a lot then) if I don't like doing it, I can always just cancel it down the road. Well here we are fifty some odd weeks later (I lost a bit of time in the shuffle of the Fun with Puppets comic I think). I never thought I could get this kind of following. It helped to get my web site up and to give me something to regularly put in my Deviantart page. But it also helped me to make up new characters that I think people connect with. And they turned out more differently than I could've imagined. But I'll save that for later. I leave this entry as a marker for fifty comics in the can. And hopefully more to come.

Smooth..

Small joke about Wario Ware. I needed a quick one, and I figured, if I don't get this one done, it'll seem too late to bother commenting about the game (if it's . If you're not familiar with it, basically it has you doing a series of actions that are humiliating, but you need to do them quickly and a bunch of series of these humiliating actions in random intervals. You do them so quickly in fact, that you can't think about the crazy actions that you are doing. The game is wonderously fun to play, but very hard to get started. I wrote this with Mac originally, back when I got the game in January. Hope you like.

Spidersnot..

Now I'm not saying that I didn't like the movie. Far from it. I thought it was an entertaining and action packed movie. That said I think the second one was better. I think they could've done an epic movie with Venom, and they could've done an epic movie with Sandman, but instead they chose to do both in a movie. It was more like three small movies up until they teamed up. They would go and beat up a bad guy and then he'd do some stuff, and then he'd go and beat up another bad guy. Up until they teamed up he didn't even seem to think of the other bad guy while he was punching through one guy or making sure Harry was brain damaged (he did hit his head quite a lot didn't he?). But all in all, I think it was a $6.50 well spent. Not as good as Spiderman 2, but not as craptastic as Fantastic Four (Now that's something that makes me want my money and brain cells back).

Pictochatty Goodness..

Up a little early from the last couple of weeks. This is Mac's comic. Sure it's not as funny as a Murder Ruxpin or a mean old pair of biddies, but it's got character development, and it resolves Mac's bombshell three weeks ago. I hope you've liked this month's romp into continuity. It's been a trip for me and I've gotten some great comments on it. It left some of our friends richer, and shown them in a whole new light. I personally am proud of the work as of late, and I'm glad you went along with Posey on her ride.

If anybody's wondering that's Pictochat they're talking through. I made an interesting Pictochat simulator for any future comics involving the nice little DS feature.

Anybody care to guess what's with Mac's screen name?

Black is White, Gar was Right..

And now it's time to say goodbye..

Yep, it's the end of Posey's little jaunt into continuity. She's come out of this a bit more sure of herself for having gotten this job. It'll be hard living with Gar after this though. Not because he'll have a bigger head for being right, but he'll probably be raving about girls or some such nonsense..

Hmm, raving about girls.. Remind you of any.. eh no I don't think I'll go there.

Don't worry folks, there'll be closure involving Mac. And ya Posey just got done with applying for a job. Now comes the hard part.

It's a mad world.

In other news I finished some quick comics involving an interesting subject. To celebrate the new Mr. Potato Head, Spider Spud, I posted some comics with the other ones I have (Darth Tater and my Disney Potato Head)

Jorbs..

I want people to know: I don't think getting a job is easy. But I also know from personal experience that a lot of companies will hire people with only minimum knowledge of what they need to do. Now if you work in this line of business, I'm not saying that you have it easy either. These companies are also guilty of working their employees hard. Believe me that's personal experience too. Really the story behind this story is thus: Posey needed to get out of the house to do something. A job is the perfect role for that. She can meet people, she can have interpersonal relationships, ect. Plus it was a way for Posey to gain her independence and get her own things. As you may have noticed, Posey isn't exactly the most worldly person. She'll grow as a person this way. And we can all agree a bit of growth is a good thing.

Seems Blogger updated themselves..

Now I can put up the posts for the last bits of news over the weeks I've been locked out. Technical Difficulties shall pass. Anyway, one thing you missed if you only look at the blog, Mac's a girl!!

Yep she's always been a girl. You think not? Go ahead and prove it.

Got some new pictures on Deviant Art if anybody likes that. One thing of interest is a preview of the next comic. It'll be completely cut up in the comic, so I thought I'd put this out as a separate piece, since I liked it so much.

And a bit of development work for Posey's new uniform. This was done in *GASP* real media. Prismacolors to be specific. I've really gotta put those on the site sometime.

Wow work sure keeps you busy doesn't it!

Should've done this on Saturday, but my new job has been keeping me kind of busy. But now that I'm back (and I've remembered to do it) I'm catching up on what's up here. The new Same Apartment introduces us to a new plot line forming. This one'll be shorter than the Clash story, and I hope to do a bit of punchliney goodness, instead of the more action oriented Clash. Speaking of Clash, now we have the return of Mac! I said Gar's rival gamer would return. See I didn't forget..

Fat Kid?

I mentioned Benson and Butler back in January. They are just two old mean biddies who for no reason in particular hate Gar. You know how old people can be sometimes. But you shouldn't disrespect them. Even if they are as bad as Benson and Butler. Think about it, someday, you'll be the old person sneering down at youngins with their low ridin' hover crafts and their saggin' space jeans. And their hippityhop techno alien music. Of course a lot of music to me is alien right now, so I may be getting on in years.

One more thing.. Something that the kids down in Deviantart went wild over. Just wild.

Turtle Power Dude!!

Wow TMNT. I think it's my second favorite comic book movie that I've seen in my life. And the only reason that I say second favorite is that I've seen Batman Begins. It's a hard act to follow. I saw the movie and I knew that Gar would be there midnight opening night, just like I was. Nothing like seeing turtles at one o'clock in the morning to warp your mind. The lighting on this was fun. It was a quick idea that went good.

Through the courtesy of Fred's two feet..

I can't help but think that Gar's a Flintstones fan. The age is right, he's old enough to actually remember when Flintstones was on network television. I'm thinking when he was a kid, he'd be sitting on the floor and munching on some Fruity Pebbles (or Cocoa Pebbles perhaps) and laughing at reruns of Fred and Barney hamming it up with Ann Margrock. Or maybe he'd be wondering what the Great Gazoo would be up to next. Ya I think Gar would probably be your typical sugar powered kid checking the shows on one channel, while making sure the commercials on the next channel were still on (because he's gotta keep an eye on that show too after all).

Scream..

I've always hated these. Don't you? You're looking at a simple serene scene. And then BAM! You get hit with this image with inverted colors screaming at you. The first time I saw one of these wasn't so bad, but the second time, I saw it in the dead of night, just me in the house. I swear every time I looked into a dark room for the next couple of days, I could see that image looking back at me. Spooky. And not the good kind, this was just the most banal type of horror around. Not fear really, just shear surprise. I hate that. O well, my annoyance is your funny comic. And look Mort and Posey are back. Did you miss them?

Epilogue..

Originally this story was just five parts. One simple month of a comic story. The fight scene then turned into a three page sprawl. Nothing wrong with unforeseen circumstances. So my little five week jaunt turned into a two month arc. I've had fun with it, but now it's over. I hope you enjoyed my little jaunt.

Aftermath..

Yep Gar lost. He isn't infallible after all. There's always someone better out there. What really makes a person great is how they react to it. Kinda closing up the story with a nice little moral. Now you know and knowing is half the battle. GIJOOOOOOOOOOOOE!!

Winner Revealed!!

Here it is. The final bout. The final countdown. There's only two more pages in the Clash storyline. Gar fought the good game, and put his all into it, but in the end, Mac is the better player. For now. Like any rivalry, it's an even game. It's been fun, but I gotta get back to some funny soon. Don't worry, there's closure. Next week: Aftermath..

PS, don't worry, the light bloom will go away eventually, just don't look straight into the light.

The Battle Continues..

Next page of the Clash story. Seems the game is even now. The battle is almost over. Only two players remain. Next week, the final showdown. I gotta say. Drawing Spiderman was one of the toughest parts of this comic. He's not an easy character to draw and I dare anybody to say otherwise. Still he's a fun character. All in all, I liked the way this comic came out. It's been a couple of weeks since I've been able to say that confidently. I think it's the continuity aspect of it all. Things need to actually make a bit of sense. Don't worry though, we'll get back to the funny soon. Hopefully the chibis will keep you entertained until that happens.

Lapses and Lupy..

Updated the site with some new versions to practically all of the pictures from New Years onward. Seems all of them said 2006 in the copyright statement at the bottom of the picture. That and a couple of weeks ago I found a way to shrink the pictures to 100dpi and retain the glows that I usually put into these pictures. Here's a comparison for all those in question of what I'm trying to say with such abstract things as words. Here's a picture without the glows (how it was seen on the net originally). And here's how it was seen when I got done coloring before shrinking it.

Also got done with an art trade with Lupy from Deviantart. Nothing needed to be said. Go look at her gallery. Go now.

War..

Page four of the Clash storyline. This one seemed to take forever, and I just finished it on Thursday. I'm not completely out of archives though, since I do still have a completed filler comic to put up this month. I think I'll wait to finish this story first before putting it up. The battle begins. Casualties are taken. Of course you know this means war..

It's all there..

After that server crashed last week, I thought the worst when I couldn't log into my site anymore. But now all problems have been fixed, and now all the data lost has been uploaded from my own archives. Hope I didn't lose any readers from this ordeal, things should be running smoothly from now on.

Page three of the Clash Storyline in Same Apartment..

A picture of Sly made for an upcoming comic..

And something I don't do often is color someone else's work, this one in particular is from Zorgia author of the laugh out loud Wyliman comics..

Technical Difficulties..

Seems my server is down for the moment. I've sent a ticket in, but I can't upload the comic to it's proper place until this passes. No worries, Deviantart updates still prevail. So second page of the Clash storyline. Newcomer has a name, and that name is Mac (I rather like the idea that all the big gamers have three letter names to better fit they're high score screens). So here's to technical difficulties folks and hopefully we'll resume our regularly broadcast program.

EDIT: It's back up, but a little sporatic. I'll try to call tomorrow, but at least the comic's up.

It Begins..

This comic is going to be the first bit of in strip continuity. Sure this isn't going to turn into Megatokyo, but I'd like to think it's not on VG Cats side of the spectrum either continually (thought I read and enjoy both strips regularly). Through this story two new characters will be introduced. I hope you dear readers will enjoy what will be taking place in the strips to come. Don't worry the gags will return soon.

2006 we hardly knew ye..

Wow what happened to the year? Seems like it was just 2005.. I blame television. It's been an eventful year. I pulled thirteen months on the Tomcat Ltd Blog (right before starting a new one because of technical problems), launched a web site, got a job, a car (and license), and a deviantart account. That's all not counting a web comic which I've recieved some wonderful comments about. Thanks for all the wonderful feedback on my pictures, the site and the comic everybody. See you on the other side..

Christmas 2006..

It's one of my favorite times of the year. Gar may have the best Halloween memories, but Christmas is a day that will live in infamy. Seems Posey made it out of this holiday without any lasting emotional scars. Merry Christmas everyone, or Happy Hanukkah, or any holiday you hold dear this time of year.

Peace on Earth, good will toward men and a Bumble in a pear tree.

No More Missing Backgrounds Huh?

No seriously, this was before I made that big rant about backgrounds. Really. Anyway this is a poster idea that I eventually plan to add to the merchendise page at Cafe Press, but maybe after the Christmas season. Unless any readers want one early.. This came out pretty much as I'd planned, but I don't think I'm really happy with the lettering that I did myself. Maybe I should've used some fonts or something. Oh well I can always change it later.

In other news if you haven't heard, I've joined Comic Space, where artists can come together and act all emo. Come and see! Add me as a friend and I'll be sure to return the favor.

It's Playtime..

Back to backgrounds. Back to gags. Real gags. Not those silly ones that develop character or some such nonsense. Plays on words, sight gags, and just plain funny pictures. Oh wait, this is a serene scene comic. Right. Just back to backgrounds then. Maybe we can squeeze some humor into the next one.

But seriously, I've been bored with those quick comics. The ones that have no real background. Sure they can be churned out quicker, but overall product is lacking. Plus I'm guessing people don't really care to go to the comic page to show their support (seeing that now I've slipped into the 800s in The Webcomics List) for a quickie comic. So I tried to do something better. Also it allowed me to draw Gar's favorite arcade, Henry Gorey's Funtasmagoria. O and for the people who can't see it (which is all of you), that dome at the top of the round part of the building is a brain. The layout of the panel, just didn't allow for the whole thing to be shown (it was either the brain dome or Gar).

Artistically sound..

I was working for an entire week on another comic that, while it had a wonderful idea, just wasn't coming together artistially. So on about Thursday night, I put the idea aside and came up with something that maybe wasn't as funny, but looked better artistically. I like the way this one looked, because it's so rough. This one isn't inked, just pencils run through Adobe Streamline. I also liked it because it took about one day to color. Don't worry, it gets better soon.

Back on track..

Thanx to that wonderfully addictive instrument of doom, the Wii, I've lost one week of archives, but I think I'm back on track. But luckily I got this done before the launch. I've really gotta get back on doing backgrounds again. It'll happen, I promise.

How Long..

This was someone else's idea and I initially didn't want to do it. The problem I had was that it had no punchline. It just had Gar waiting for the Wii and then eventually had him running around with it when he got it (something that I used in the upcoming comic). I already had the Wii launch comic planned which can be found in poster form here, and will be going up next Saturday. BCN and I had a bunch of fights about where this one should go. He didn't want to do a "waiting for Wii" comic a week before the launch. Suddenly it hit me. Gar's a fanatic. I should have him acually waiting for the Wii a week before launch. Any Xbox or Playstation fans should note that I'm a Nintendo junkie myself, but don't fret. After launch, I currently have no comics planned regarding the Wii. After the 19th we'll go back to our regularly scheduled comic.

It's Lupus, but it's not..

With help writing by a friend. I'd recently got the House Season Two dvd and was too entralled with the little Lupus feature that I just had to comment on it. I'm sure that Posey's jaw will drop the far away day that it is actually Lupus. Though I suppose that day will signify the jumping of the shark on House.
